Swatch-based estimator

Crochet yarn calculator from a swatch

Scale the yarn used in a representative swatch to your project area, then convert it using the length and mass printed on your yarn label.

Runs locally
Estimate, not a guarantee. Use the same yarn, hook, stitch fabric, gauge, and finishing treatment as your project. Calculate different fabrics separately.
Units
1 Measure your swatch

Use a treated, representative swatch. Measure the fabric, not curled edges.

Do not mix measurements from a different yarn, hook, stitch pattern, or finishing process.

2 Define project area
3 Read the yarn label

Use mass and length from the same ball or skein.

No universal buffer is assumed. Enter your own planning preference; 0% shows the base estimate.

Nothing is uploaded or stored.

What the calculator can—and cannot—tell you

The result scales the yarn density of your measured swatch. It is useful for planning when your project uses the same yarn, hook, stitch fabric, gauge, and treatment. It cannot predict changes in tension, mistakes, joins, borders, seams, dye-lot availability, or a different fabric.
